For starters, Fall began last Thursday ya’ll. I have already had my fair share of pumpkin spice lattes and all my scarves are begging to come out and be worn!
So, the different phases of our lives involve what?
I think that it is comical that we are expected as:
to have our crap together all day, every day.
- Physical state: Eh. I’m working on it.
- Social state: I introvert.
- Emotional state: Work in progress.
- Financial state: That’s none ya.
The world that we live in pretty much tells us that every day we need to wake up and be the best of these that we can all day long until we go to bed and do it all over again the following day.
Yes, coffee helps. Yes wine, possibly. Yoga is good for the soul and long baths get rid of some of the tension. But, bottom line, I don’t think I have EVER been one hundred percent perfect in EVERY one of those EVER in my life.
If I’m financially well, my social life has gone down the drain. If I’m romantically stable my emotional state takes a vacation. If I’m mentally well, I’ve probably eaten ten donuts in one sitting (so I’m physically unstable). I hate that we’re expected to ace all of these all at one time, but that’s what we do, right? That’s what we’re supposed to do, right?
I think we should most definitely strive to hit these every single day but when it doesn’t always work out the way we want it to, we should give ourselves some grace.
We can work at it and work at it and we may not hit all in one day. We may not hit all in one week. The important thing is that we keep trying and to also know that we aren’t perfect.
As surprising as this may be to you, we are very far away from being perfect, we’re human. So keep striving but don’t be too hard on yourself when you don’t meet all of your expectations. Just get back up and try again. Financially unstable? Let go of some unnecessary spending. If you’re mentally unstable, go meditate or pray, ask God for guidance. Having trouble physically being stable? Go workout! I know working out isn’t the most fun thing to do in the world but it’s good for you! You aren’t going to kill all of these to the max every single day, and if you do, I want to know your secret. You just work on the ones that you struggle with, appreciate the ones that you are solid with and enjoy your life! All of it.
If you are unstable, it’s okay. We all get a little crazy from time to time.
As for me, I am working on my physical, financial and emotional states. Let me tell you, I’m so sore that I can’t walk, I haven’t mastered the art of controlling my tears and until I graduate from my soul-sucking college, I won’t be rich haha. But that’s alright, I’ll work on them. I’m a trooper.
Which ones do you need to work on?
Also, here is some motivation for you:
“Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Jesus Christ.” -Philippians 3:12
“Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it.” -Salvador Dali
“Imperfections are not inadequacies; the are reminders that we’re all in this together.” -Brene Brown
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” -Hebrews 12:1
