Stefne Miller was born an “Army Brat” and lived in many states growing up including: Oklahoma, Hawaii, Georgia, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Before trying her hand at writing, she held various jobs including working along side her husband in Children’s Ministry; becoming the Director of Operations and later a Public Policy Specialist and Cabinet Liaison for then Governor of Oklahoma, Frank Keating; and later, a pharmaceutical representative for one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
In 2008, while visiting a friend out of state, Stefne had a dream in which the Lord asked her to join him on a new journey. Upon waking, she wrote down the dream and Salvaged was born.
Stefne currently lives in Edmond, Oklahoma and has been married to Shaun, a realtor, since 1994. Shaun and Stefne have three sons – Jacob (15), Caleb (13) and Yohannes (12).
I’ve been contacted on several occasions by students writing essay’s about me and they are in need of information. So, below you will find some information about myself that I sent to one of the students. Feel free to use this information as you need and should you need any additional information, do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail. [stefnemiller@yahoo.com]
I was born in Oklahoma City, OK on June 10, 1970.
My father was in the US Army so I moved quite a bit growing up. I lived in Oklahoma; Hawaii; Springfield, VA; Norfolk, VA; Georgia and then finally graduated from High School in Pennsylvania in 1988. All of my relatives lived in Oklahoma so most summers I would come back to visit. We always called Oklahoma home.
I was an average student – mostly C’s. Cheerleading and choir were my two school activities. I struggled greatly with all types of mathematics and I believe that my lack of confidence in that area bled into the rest of my school work.
I loved my life growing up. To most people it would have been considered ideal. I had both of my parents in the home during all of my growing up years. They were great parents. Very loving. Very attentive. I honestly don’t have any complaints about my childhood. I loved it.
My father was an author of several successful novels, but I never thought about writing. I loved reading and I loved my literature classes at school, it just never crossed my mind to write. Then, in the fall of 2008, I had a very realistic dream. When I woke up, I felt compelled to write it down. The next night I had another dream. I woke up and wrote down what I saw. These dreams took place every night for approximately two weeks and I always woke up and wrote them down. By the time the dreams ended, I realized I was about six chapters into a novel. Even though the dreams stopped, I kept writing and within three months, Salvaged was complete.
To date, I’ve written Salvaged, which was released in 2010, and Rise which is available as of April 2011 but will officially release in June. My third novel, Collision will be released in January or February 2012 and I’ve completed a fourth novel, Brave, which will probably release in the fall of 2012 or Spring of 2013. I am currently working on my fifth novel titled, Gifted.
Salvaged’s popularity among bloggers and high reader ratings, led me to become a finalist in the Goodreads Readers Choice Awards in the Debut Author of 2010 category. Salvaged was also a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award in the Children’s and Young Adult division.
I believe that my writing carries many important messages to the readers but I do it in a very realistic, modern, entertaining and moving way. I believe the readers connect with how “real” the characters become to them.
I live in Edmond, Oklahoma with my husband, Shaun and my three sons, Jacob, Caleb and Yohannes. Jacob and Caleb are both biological sons and we adopted Yohannes in 2008 from Ethiopia. He was nine years old at the time. We have two dogs named Sooner and Sammy and we have two cats. One named C.C. (short for Crimson and Cream), and the other’s name is Serge (after Serge Ibaka).
My hobbies are writing and watching sports. I love Oklahoma Sooner football and OKC Thunder basketball. I despise house keeping and do a horrible job at it. Laundry is my nemesis.
