I love the Lord and how he works! Kerrigan and I did not discuss our topics for this week before she submitted her blog post to me. It is a total God coincidence that we both chose to write about being authentic. It must mean the Lord is up to something. Enjoy!
Authentic: Adj. Of undisputed origin; genuine.
Ahh genuine. A word we don’t like to use very often.
Our entire lives, we’re told by various people in our lives to grow up, wear cool clothes, become financially successful, mentally stable, find some handsome man, stay skinny and love every single bit of it.
Let me just tell you how well that’s been working out for me:
Trying to conform, I found myself at quite a few parties with the kids you don’t want your kids hanging out with, constantly being tempted with things that I wanted no part of, lonely, incredibly insecure and miserable most of the time, those just being a few recent instances.
Now, turn all of that 180 degrees and let’s become authentic for a sec.
The authentic me is ridiculous and goofy.
I attempt to be funny with little success.
I have no idea what I’m doing career wise.
My favorite time of the day is when I get to sit alone at my house and do nothing.
I’m single, a movie fanatic, and I like to learn from old people all while having major OCD.
But I have real friends who love me, a few leadership positions, an absolutely amazing job, a way of speaking to all ages, a fair face, a good family and an endless amount of opportunities.
Just because you’re authentic doesn’t mean you can’t buy that pair of white converse shoes, drive a nice car, or enjoy a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks from time to time.
It just means that there is only one of you in this world. Let that sink in. Just one of you. And If there is only one of you, don’t you want to be the best you that you can be?
“But in fact, GOD has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.” 1 Corinthians 12:18-20
There you go guys, It’s right there from the creator himself. He created us to stand out from the word together.
With all that being said, I have a challenge for you. As you’re going throughout your week, do something different, say something different, anything different and see what happens.
Be authentic. I dare you.
